Why FBI wanted Vikash Yadav

Vikash Yadav, a former officer of India's Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), is wanted by U.S. authorities for allegedly orchestrating an assassination plot targeting Sikh separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. Pannun, a vocal proponent of the Khalistan movement, has been classified as a terrorist by India and holds dual citizenship in the U.S. and Canada. The plot was reportedly uncovered in 2022 when U.S. intelligence intercepted plans to eliminate Pannun in New York.

The U.S. indictment accuses Yadav of hiring a hit team to carry out the assassination, with businessman Nikhil Gupta acting as a middleman. Gupta allegedly paid an advance to the hired assassin but was arrested before the plot could be executed. Despite the serious charges, the Indian government has denied involvement, stating that such actions are contrary to its policies. Diplomatic discussions between the U.S. and India have taken place, but the case continues to raise tensions between the two countries.
